Early Saturday morning the President of the United States of America launched another of his infamous twitter storms, and this one was especially bizarre.
In the middle of defending Jeff Sessions against the dark forces of the Democrats, he threw in a series of tweets accusing former President Barack Obama of wire tapping Trump tower before the election. Here’s the first tweet in the series:
Donald J. Trump
Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my “wires tapped” in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!
3:35 AM – 4 Mar 2017
Several more follow, forming a kind of extended rant about “A NEW LOW!” and “Bad (or sick) guy!”
News organizations noticed the “just found out” and started looking for where he might have “just found out.” Turns out it was most likely a piece from Breitbart, the supermarket tabloid of the politi-sphere.
Neither Trump nor the Breitbart piece offered any evidence to support the claim of wiretapping, but this is just the sort of stuff Breitbart publishes.
It is disturbing that the President of the United States of America would accuse his predecessor of a serious criminal action like this based solely on a story from a thoroughly discredited purveyor of conspiracy theories, character assassinations, smear jobs, as well as some really weird stuff. Even more disturbing is that Breitbart appears to be one of our President’s go-to sources for learning “the truth” at 3:35 in the morning. I don’t know what he’s going to do when he reads that North Korea nuked Tokoyo; nuke Pyongyang?
As an aside, Steve Bannon, Trump’s campaign CEO and now one of Trump’s closest advisors in the White House, ran Breitbart before he jumped on the Trump bandwagon. If you don’t find this disturbing all by itself, then you haven’t been paying attention.
How do we explain this kind of unhinged behavior by our President? Apparently he doesn’t drink alcohol. Drugs maybe? Forgot to take his meds? Where were his keepers?
Here is a FOX NEWS article on the tweet storm. They are right-wing, so it’s not surprising that they don’t comment on the unprecedented weirdness of this, but instead finesse it by moving on to talk about his other tweets defending Jeff Sessions, as though that was a story of comparable importance. It’s not. The President’s behavior is not normal human behavior. THAT’s the story.
